While my career has thus far been focused mostly on technical writing (in English), I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in translation initiatives throughout my career.

At Fortinet, I led a project to translate our Ordering Guides into key languages, mainly Korean, Japanese, and Spanish. Ordering Guides are PDF-based documents intended to clarify Fortinet’s offerings for specific products and verticals. I led the project by testing machine translation, verifying the Korean translation myself, and liaising with Japanese- and Spanish-speaking colleagues to verify the relevant translations. Following is an example of the FortiSASE Ordering Guide translated into Korean.

During my tenure at Splunk, I contributed to a project to translate UI strings into key languages using AI-assisted translation methods. As a native Korean speaker, I reviewed the translated Korean strings for linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and brand consistency. I collaborated with the developer to discuss details specific to the Korean language, brainstorming ways to efficiently and accurately translate English to Korean, while maintaining our brand voice, consistency, and ease of use.
