Machine Shop Poster

flowchartOne of my main projects when I was a Communications Assistant at the UBC Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering was to create a poster based on this flowchart and the accompanying text.

The poster would be displayed right by the door of the machine shop, so that students would have a physical reminder of the rules before they stepped into the space.

Since the walls of the building were green, my supervisor and I decided on some bright, borderline lurid colours, so that the poster would really grab students’ attention: bright yellow with a hot pink trim. I changed the colour of the flowchart to make it pop more, and simplified the steps in the procedure to make them more concise while still retaining their original meaning.

This was a fun project where I learned to design for my audience–I also placed the order with the printing company and got to see the physical fruit of my labours when the poster (printed on a foam board) was delivered.
